![]() Squadrons should feel more like a simulation, rather than an arcade. Motive has designed Squadrons to be quite different in both visuals and gameplay experience from the Starship Assault mode in Battlefrotn 2. It will cost $39.99 on release and aims to hit your nostalgia feelings hard. You pilot your ships from within the cockpit and will rarely get to see the outside of your ship during battle. Star Wars Squadrons vs Starfighter Assault – what will be differentįirst and foremost, Star Wars Squadrons is a first-person game. ![]() It will have a single player story campaign and a multiplayer mode. In brief, before we begin with the more interesting stuff: Star Wars Squadrons is a first-person Star Wars flying experience video game, available for PC, PS5 and Xbox One, including VR. In my first preview of Star Wars Squadron article I covered what this game is. ![]() The new gameplay trailer and the few interviews we got out of the developers during the show, reveal a lot more information about what exactly the game will be and how will it differ from Star Wars Battlefront 2’s Starfighter Assault! I am certainly excited to see what they can do in the Star Wars sandbox.EA Play 2020 is behind us now and the most notable presence at this year’s virtual format of the show was Motive’s upcoming Star Wars Squadrons. Regardless, the game has a lot of potential coming from a proven studio and publisher who has churned out some of the best game franchises out there. It could still be a while before any more details are revealed. The game is still in the early stages, so much so that they are still hiring for positions on the project. There is no word on the setting of the game, where it takes place in the timeline, who the main character will be, or even the game’s genre. While several aspects can be speculated on, there is no way of knowing for sure. The towers used in those games could be incredibly fun in a Star Wars setting.Īs of now, that is the only information we have on Ubisoft’s Star Wars game. That does not mean their inclusion would be a negative one though. However, that one has no true basis for speculation other than previous Ubisoft games. The game is also heavily rumored to feature the infamous “Ubisoft Towers,” where player has to climb up a point of interest to reveal the game’s map. All the recent Far Cry games and even the old Assassin’s Creed games featured multiplayer components that were largely optional and could be ignored if the player wanted. That doesn’t mean that the game can’t still have a heavy focus on a single-player story. However, with Massive’s most recent game being The Division, which is an online shooter, it would make sense for the game to have some sort of multiplayer component to it. It likely stems from Ubisoft’s announcement that the game will be story-driven. Some have speculated that it will be a single-player adventure game, but this has not been confirmed. According to Ubisoft, it is will also be a story-driven, open-world game.Īside from that, there are not a lot of other details about the game. The game will run on Massive’s Snowdrop engine which has powered several Ubisoft games from The Division to Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. Julian Gerighty, who was the director on The Division 2 and The Crew will also serve as the creative director of the game. We know that the game will be developed by Massive Entertainment, the same studio behind Tom Clancy’s The Division and the upcoming Avatar game. Most of the information we have comes from a Wired article from January. Lucasfilm Games and Ubisoft have been pretty quiet about the project aside from a few bits of information here and there. That alone is enough to get any fan of Star Wars or video games excited, but what do we know about this project? Unfortunately not a lot. The big takeaway was the announcement of a Ubisoft Star Wars game. RELATED: 'Star Wars Eclipse' Trailer Breakdown Even with the end of the exclusivity, EA will continue to publish Star Wars games as well. Although, that exclusivity was never officially stated and merely inferred based on a statement EA CFO Blake Jorgensen made. Obviously, this would effectively end the exclusivity partnership Lucasfilm had with EA for publishing games. The other game would be a Star Wars title developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. One of those games would be an Indiana Jones game published by Bethesda and developed by Machine Games. At the beginning of this year, Lucasfilm Games announced that they were partnering with two publishers for two new games.
